ERP to PLM Connectivity
This client wanted to connect their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to their Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system to automate repetitive tasks
What was the challenge...
This client came to us with a desire to become more efficient and consistent with their spares ordering system. Historically when a customer needed to order a spare part the salesperson needed to open both the ERP system to create an enquiry but also the highly specialised PLM system to find the part details. This required each member of staff to be trained on two different system, have additional licencing and at best copy and paste information between windows or at worst mistype information between the systems.
What did we do...
We quickly got to work understanding what systems the client was using and what access was available that would support an automated approach. We discovered that it was not cost effective to interface the two systems directly due to the applications in use; with the clients approval we designed a bespoke Web API interface utilising C#. This interface provided a controlled and protected data query, transform and exchange between the two systems and was deployed on a local IIS server.
